Christian Revival Seems Promising, While Messianic Revival Appears Stagnant!
Within the Messianic Jewish Movement, it seems a sub-movement of Gentile Messianics has been greatly influenced by Hebrew Roots Movement (HRM) erroneous theology. As a whole most Messianic Gentiles hold to gracious freedom, but a highly zealous and influential group of HRM members on the Internet has increasingly become anti-Christian, embracing a unique type of “displacement or replacement theology”. Though they claim to represent a righteous and loving God, their attitudes are often judgemental towards those not adhering to a loose form of Torah observance.
It is my observation that as the sub-movement of Gentile Messianics continues on its current course, Messianic Jewish believers are distancing themselves from some Messianic Gentiles and Messianic congregations, not wanting to be associated with what appears to be a cult. Already most Christians are wary of anything considered Messianic. This widespread opinion among Christians will more than likely have a negative affect on the Gentile Messianic sub-movement, leading to its obscurity and damaging the reputation of the Messianic Jewish Movement as a whole.
But juxtaposed to the Messianic Gentile and/or Hebrew Roots Movement, many Gospel preaching churches are experiencing a revival of a sort, with their numbers growing significantly. Messianic Jews like myself are aligning with Protestant churches with outreaches to Jews and Gentile alike, but unlike many Messianic Gentile groups the message they preach is one of gracious freedom, without an emphasis on Torah observance. Torah though instructive to Christians should never be regarded as superseding the freedom of the Gospel of Grace.
It's too early to determine how much of a revival will occur in the USA and globally, but if you remember the Jesus Movement from the 1960s and 1970s many unbelieving Gentiles and Jews came to a belief in the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ). I am hoping and praying this revival will surpass the previous one.
In Messiah’s gracious freedom,
